BXA introduces a mandatory Day-of-Bout weight check for all BXA World and Continental Championship contests. This protocol is designed to protect fighters from the consequences of extreme overnight rehydration and to give ringside medical staff a verified pre-contest weight record for every championship bout.

The official weigh-in remains the primary eligibility check. The Day-of-Bout weight check is a safety and transparency measure, not a secondary qualification. A boxer who exceeds the permitted rehydration limit does not lose the fight but triggers a mandatory medical review and may face a financial penalty.

Protocol Rules

Rule Detail
Official weigh-in No more than 30 hours before the contest, as per standard BXA rules.
Day-of-Bout weight check Conducted on the day of the contest, no earlier than 3 hours before the first bout on the card and no later than 2 hours before.
Permitted rehydration A boxer may weigh up to 10 lb / 4.5 kg above the division limit at the Day-of-Bout check.
Excessive rehydration A boxer weighing more than 10 lb / 4.5 kg above the division limit triggers mandatory review by the BXA Medical Committee before the contest proceeds.
Medical discretion The BXA ringside physician has authority to recommend postponement of the bout if the Day-of-Bout weight check indicates a medical risk. The Championship Committee makes the final decision.
Record The Day-of-Bout weight is recorded in the official BXA supervisor report and added to the boxer’s Fighter Passport.
Scope Mandatory for all BXA World and Continental Championship contests. Recommended for BXA Intercontinental and Eliminator contests.

Why BXA Introduces This Protocol

•       Extreme weight cutting followed by rapid overnight rehydration creates documented neurological and cardiovascular risk.
•       A verified pre-contest weight provides ringside physicians with critical context if a boxer suffers an injury.
•       Transparency in the weight management process supports the credibility of BXA championship results.
•       BXA champions and challengers represent the highest standard of the sport. This protocol protects that standard.
